Dolce Stil Nuovo, or Sweet New Style was a literary movement in thirteenth century Italy and included such poets as Guido Guinizelli, Guido Cavalcanti, Cino da Pistoia and Dante Alighieri. Poetry of this movement centered around idealized love and nobility. Marc Cirigliano said, " [it] was a fresh approach to the tradition of medieval love poetry begun in Provence in the twelfth century by the male troubadours and female trobairitzes" (xii).
I will have a handout of a selection of poems from this period for use in class. Here are also links of other poems from the highlighted writers for your perusal.
